This is how it all started for me, more than 15 years ago. First of all, I must say that like many other CodeBoxx’s graduates, I realized during my career that the traditional school system was not for me. Indeed, after some time at the Cégep en Sciences Humaines, I left all that aside in order to start a career as a sales representative for Bell Canada in 2005. It is a job that requires a high level of energy and motivation on a daily basis. I gathered experience in this area and was finally promoted to assistant manager in 2013 and manager the following year. Looking back today, slowly but surely, the pressure linked to the sales targets that we have to achieve was starting to weigh heavily on my motivation and my energy level, but also on the fun I had to do my work. A few years later, in 2019, after 15 years of service, I resigned from my position!
I must admit that I have always had this passion for technology. In my spare time, I took several Udemy courses on Web development, C #, python or other interesting topics of the very large tech field. When I made the decision to quit my job, I knew that was the area I wanted to head to. I had heard of CodeBoxx and signed up for the cohort that started in May 2019. In the meantime, I got a job in IT for the “Jeux du Québec” after my departure and it was at this moment that I confirmed my passion for the field! During my stay, I received the email that would initiate the enrollment process for the cohort. I was so anxious to start that I put all my efforts into my preparation. I had a goal: I wanted to finish 1st of my cohort! I was ready when the bootcamp started.
During the 16 weeks of the bootcamp, I spent an average of 11 hours a day in my work to ensure that I submitted a high quality deliverable every Friday. I was 100% dedicated and that’s what allowed me to be very successful. I already had some reflexes that helped me a lot, including one of the most important that a developer can have, the LMGTFY (Let Me Google That For You), but CodeBoxx allowed me to learn a lot of concepts and of technologies that I didn’t know about. Also, as teamwork is an important part of a developer’s job, it was something I hadn’t experienced during my online courses and CodeBoxx helped me develop the skills and practices to be a good teammate and a good leader. A highlight of my cohort was during the presentation of Coveo, a partner of CodeBoxx. They gave me the impression that it was an extraordinary place to work and I remember that at that moment I said to myself: I will do everything to be able to work at this place!
It turns out that what I heard during the presentation was absolutely true! I was able to validate by myself when I reached my goal and I was hired by Coveo! My position as a product specialist fills me to the highest point and that is exactly what I was looking for when I work with code and I “debug” stuff every day. I continue to learn it every day and my appetite for knowledge is still very high. The best thing that happened to me in a long time was being hired by Coveo. Thanks to CodeBoxx for making all of this possible!
