CodeBoxx and Le Panier Bleu: The final report on the future of retail is delivered

Monday 25th January 2021

After months of work, it is today that Le Panier Bleu is tabling its final report on the future of retail in Quebec. The 80 experts spread over the 8 sites therefore submitted to the President Alain Dumas a total of 50 recommendations in an exhaustive document in order to identify the next steps to be followed for the future of commerce in Quebec. As was announced a few months ago, CodeBoxx’s expertise in technological capacities of online commerce, via its CEO Nicolas Genest, had been required to lead one of the 8 sites, namely the one on the technological capacities of commerce.

CodeBoxx is very proud to have contributed to first carrying out a complete analysis of the problems and issues, but is all the more proud to have succeeded in proposing solutions that are adequate, realistic and pragmatic in order to respond to these problems and issues while keeping in mind the consumer and the Quebec taxpayer. Moreover, as the report mentions, Quebec would be dramatically wrong in attempting to create a Quebec Amazon. It can nonetheless bring together, within a Quebec platform, the infrastructure, resources and tools that would allow the Quebec population to gain accelerated maturity in digital commerce, regardless of their current level. It’s time for Quebec merchants to seize the opportunity to catch up with their digital commerce gap. Only those retailers who embrace this last-ditch swing will survive the tidal wave of a fourth industrial revolution now accelerated by a pandemic.

In the coming days, we will be posting a series of specific publications for the 6 issues raised in the report as well as the associated recommendations. You can consult the report now by following the links at the end of the article.

Desjardins, Banque Nationale and Panier Bleu will jointly invest $ 900,000 to give an initial impetus to this process, which aims to create a common transactional platform for Quebec merchants, by fall 2021. Ultimately, the objective is to offer a significantly improved customer experience to consumers who choose to buy from Quebec, particularly with regard to the online shopping experience and delivery. For Quebec retailers, the benefits will be multiple: increasing their visibility on the Web, reducing the costs associated with the digital transition, having access to expertise and logistical capacity that they cannot currently afford, etc.
